Like, Comment, Advise: Building Connections with Students Without Becoming their Bestie

About the Session

In Campus Activities, we focus on creating connections with students to build community while maintaining professionalism. When working so closely with students, there can be times when professionals can slip into either being too friendly or too distant with students. No matter which side of this pendulum you fall on, the results can create a divide between professionals and the students they’re seeking to serve. This presentation will focus on the link between these three pillars of building relationships with students and how you as a professional can apply them to your daily work. While the presenters acknowledge that there is not one right answer to the questions that they are attempting to answer, this presentation is an attempt to co-create knowledge to better engage and impact students across campus in a variety of functional areas.
