Getting to Know More SA Staff and Students

Hello Gayatri!

"Hello! My name is Gayatri Titus and I am honored to serve as a counselor and also coordinator of multicultural services at the Counseling and Psychological Services here at Appalachian State University. I was born in Mumbai (Bombay), India. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St. Xaviers College and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Mumbai. I then decided to come to the US to pursue higher education and graduated with a Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Marriage and Family therapy with an emphasis in Primary Care from the Department of Family Medicine, at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.

I am passionate about helping people discover and celebrate their uniqueness, gifts, and strengths so that they can create more happiness and joy in their lives and relationships. I enjoy working with my colleagues who are so kind and compassionate. In my free time, I enjoy learning about new cultures and their cuisines, baking, writing poetry, gardening, listening to music, meditating, reading, traveling and connecting with my friends around the world. I also love spending time with my children whose sense of humor, perspective, and joy for life help me to stay grounded and grateful and I feel extremely lucky to be their mom."

Hi Drew!

Drew Ellis is a sophomore here at App State majoring in Biology.  He is a Diversity Scholar and plans to graduate in spring 2025!

"I am a person who likes to collect many hobbies. In the past I have learned how to knit, sew, draw and paint. I am also an avid cook, and love to make meals for family and loved ones. I love to read, mostly fantasy and sci-fi novels- those books almost never disappoint. I also collect houseplants, and have over 60 in my collection! I really enjoy doing a lot of things, and pursue whatever my heart wants to do at the moment.

I also love to volunteer, I find it is rewarding to feel active in your own community, but I also do it because I love meeting new people, and try my best to spread joy, fun, and positivity in each environment.  I enjoy being a part of the gardening and mycology clubs. I am a part of the diversity scholar program, as well as the Honors College here. I volunteer at organizations such as the Hunger and Health Coalition, the Hospitality House, and Appalachian State greenhouse."
