Hunger Challenge

Our student-led Hunger Alleviation Community of Practice is working to win $10,000 for Hunger and Health Coalition through a Food Lion grant-funded food security program run through Community-Engaged Leadership and we would love your support.

We Need Your Help over the next few months to make this possible!

  • Share your MVP Food Lion number with us through this form
    • We receive points for every food lion MVP number we collect, and earn even more points every time you shop at any Food Lion now-January 1st
    • Consider sharing the above form with your students to maximize our impact!
  • Participate in A Simple Gesture
    • A Simple Gesture is a Hunger and Health Coalition (HHC) initiative where participants are given a green reusable grocery bag to fill with non-perishable items to be donated to HHC.
    • We've made this even easier for you by being able to pick up and drop off your reusable grocery bags in the Community-Engaged Leadership office (PSU 138). Stop by CEL to pick up your reusable grocery bag and return it to us on or before our next pickup date October 21st! We will have more dates throughout the semester as well.
    • Consider signing out 1-2 bags for your office/student groups and collaborating with others to fill them!
  • Follow us on social media @appchc to follow our journey, find additional ways to support, and learn some fun facts about food insecurity in the High Country!

Upcoming Hunger Challenge Events:

  • A Simple Gesture Pick-Up Date (October 21st) in CEL office
  • Food Drive at Food Lion (350 Watauga Village Dr, Boone, NC 28607)
  • App State Free Farmer's Market (November 18th) Sanford Mall
    • We will be giving away free produce to App Students and raising awareness about food insecurity among college students
  • SOUPer Bowl Food Drive/ A Simple Gesture Pick-Up Date - (ending December 3rd)

Let Carly May know if you have any questions or want to collaborate on any of our events. Thank you in advance for your efforts to address food insecurity in Watauga County!
