January 17th-Join Us for MLK Day of Service ~ Make it a Day On, Not a Day Off ~

Audience: Faculty, Staff & Students

Honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by donating a few hours of your time at a local non-profit on January 17th, 2022. Volunteers will meet on campus at 9:00 am for service kickoff in Parkway Ballroom PSU 420, serve at a local nonprofit from 10 am-1 pm, and return to campus for lunch and reflection until 2 pm. Lunch and transportation will be provided! Interested folks can rsvp here on engage. A great way to get those service hours in!

January 18th-Bust & Amendment Unveiling, 4:00 PM

Audience: Faculty, Staff & Students

As part of App State’s commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the university will unveil a new display of Civil Rights Amendments as well as a bust of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These items will be installed in the International Hallway of Plemmons Student Union.

An Evening with Bakari Sellers, 6:30 PM

Audience: Faculty, Staff, Students & Community

App State will host a keynote presentation by political analyst, lawyer and activist Bakari Sellers in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The presentation will be followed by a brief question-and-answer session.  

January 20th, 5:30pm-7:00pm, Blue Ridge Ballroom PSU 201-The Leadership of Martin Luther King, Jr: Dinner and Dialogue

Audience: Geared towards Students

This event will be an opportunity for participants to develop their understanding of leadership through the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We'll examine how MLK led and inspired the Civil Rights movement, March on Washington, Poor People's Campaign, and more. Each participant will walk away with components of his leadership philosophy that they can use as they grow as leaders.

The event will also include dinner, inspired by Dr. King's favorite meal of fried chicken, collard greens, candied sweet potatoes, green beans, pecan pie, and sweet tea.
