Wellness and Prevention Engaging Students Virtually
Wellness and Prevention Services is here to support our students virtually, wherever they may be. Students can get connected to our clinical services (addiction counseling and nutrition counseling) by emailing us at [email protected] or calling our office at (828) 262 - 3148.
Virtual Events
Our educational events have moved online. When possible, we are recording these events so that our students can watch them when they are able to, although we'd love for them to tune in live when they can.
- y(OUR) Story Mental Health Show premiered on March 24th at 7:30pm. You and your student can view the show, as well as art created for the show, here.
- April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Our Red Flag Educators are hosting the following events:
- April 1st: Coffee and Consent Video montage - Our peer educators will discuss what consent is and how to obtain it.
- April 8th: Clothesline Project Video - Viewers will have the opportunity to read stories from interpersonal violence survivors through this virtual art show.
- April 23rd: Take Back The Night - Learn about on and off campus as well as hear a story from a sexual assault survivor. This video will be followed by a live Q & A session via Zoom on April 24th at 11:00.
- Koru Mindfulness Classes - Our 4 week long Koru Mindfulness classes help students feel less stressed, improve sleep and focus, and reduce self-judgement. We have moved them online! Students can sign up here.
- Students seeking an asynchronous experience should sign up for the Koru un-class. There is a $3.99 fee to use the Koru app for this un-class. Registering for this class gives you access to the Koru Mindfulness app, including guided meditations, meditation log, and a class-wide gratitude river. The App State library does carry an unlimited use online license for the Koru class book. If you use the book and the app together, you will have a great go at your own pace introduction to mindfulness course.
- Online Suicide Prevention Training is available 24/7.

Keeping in Touch on Social Media
We are active on our social media accounts. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram and engage with us there. Some of the things we have going on are:
- Mindful Minutes at 1pm - Join us on Facebook and Instagram at 1pm for mindful minutes live with Wellness and Prevention Services staff on most weekdays
- "Post Your Plate" Competition on Instagram - Throughout the month of March, use the hashtag #appstatedininghack to post the balanced meals you're eating. At the end of each week, a winning plate will get a swag bag, to be picked up when campus returns to normal operations.
