More About This Award

The Berardino DiBernardi Leadership and Legacy Award celebrates the traditions and importance of leadership, service and legacy that Berardino “Dino” DiBernardi emphasized in his significant and varied roles during his 38 years at Appalachian State University.  Beginning in 1977, Dino was involved and provided leadership in almost every department in the Division of Student Development at Appalachian State University with his last role being the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Development.  The recipient of this award will be selected based on evidence of not only academic success but a strong commitment to community service, university involvement through student leadership, achievement of personal and educational goals, and evidence of leaving Appalachian State University and the community a better place.  The recipient will long be remembered for their individual contribution(s) to Appalachian State University and the community at large. The award process is coordinated by the Division of Student Development, but the Berardino DiBernardi Leadership and Legacy Award is to recognize an Appalachian student who embodies the ideals and principles of the award.

This award recognizes a student or students who have not only demonstrated exemplary leadership in comparison to their current peers, but also as measured in comparison to those who have received the Appalachian Distinguished Leadership Award in the past.  This award presentation will be made during the Spring semester awards program held on March 15, 2021.
