University Housing | Service Projects

During November, residents of each hall on campus came together as a community to do service projects. Residents in Hoey, East, and Appalachian Panhellenic Halls spent time creating greeting cards for service people stationed overseas and hospitalized children. These greetings will go across the country and around the world spreading joy and positivity from our students. Residents in Gardner, Coltrane, and Bowie wrote cards to deliver to campus partners to show their appreciation for all they do to make Appalachian State an outstanding place to be a student.

In Summit Hall, floors competed against each other to raise money via Penny Wars. In this hotly contested race, donated pennies counted as positive points for the floor and silver change took points away from other floors. The spirit of competition was strong in Summit Hall, the residents raised over one hundred dollars in four days! All proceeds were given to Hospitality House to support their cause during their busiest time of year.

A bountiful Friendsgiving feast took place in Mountaineer and Doughton Halls. Students engaged in reflection on the semester and enjoyed fellowship with their hall mates. To obtain entry into the event residents were asked to donate canned goods to be given to local organizations. Over 300 cans were donated by residents of both halls.

On the west side of campus, members of the App Heights community made dog treats for the Humane Society and residents of the Living Learning Center (LLC) participated in a trail cleanup to keep Boone beautiful. We are extremely proud of our student-led initiatives and the philanthropic nature of our residents. We hope to see this commitment to bettering the Boone community extend into the Spring semester.
